Rig Tension Guide

Designed and produced by John Gill, this rig tension gauge makes it simple to set up your rigs consistently every time you make a change.

Once you find your sweet spot for different sailing conditions, use the gauge to record your settings and reproduce them accurately at the lakeside.

To use it, pass the shroud between the bolts at the top of the gauge, then place the shroud into the hook at the tip of the pointer, as shown in the images. Allow the gauge to settle, then read the number on the scale at the bottom. For the most accurate results, keep the boat on its stand, hold the gauge as vertical as possible, and take readings in calm conditions with no wind. 

Use the gauge to balance the tension between your shrouds, then adjust up or down to suit the conditions on the day.
